‘Whether you think you can or think you can’t you’re right’

Henry Ford invented the moving assembly line in his car factory and sparked an industrial revolution.  He really ought to know the power of thought, and the limits we place upon ourselves if we limit the way that we think.

Tell yourself you ‘can’t’, and you won’t even try.  Believe instead that you can and, while it may still not be possible, you’re far more likely to explore, develop, engage, grow and try.  You might fail, you might not, but you’ll have tried. And you’ll definitely be closer to your goal than if you didn’t start the journey.

Modern neuroscience involves an understanding of neuroplasticity - that we can remodel our brain’s way of thinking; out with the old and in with the new, mostly brought about by repetition - so, if you’re a glass-half-empty type, your glass will always be half empty.  But it’s possible to make your glass half-full by choosing to deliberately think differently about it, and deliberately reinforcing that way of thinking again and again until it becomes your new normal and it’s easy. The glass is half full or half empty either way. But you’re seeing and experiencing it differently.

This isn’t fantasy or hocus pocus.  If you want to change your thinking, follow this logic:

Your experience of the majority of situations in your life is determined by your thinking.  Put 100 people in 100 identical cars and 100 identical accidents/impacts, and you’ll get 100 different reactions.  It’s not the event, it’s your processing of it that determines how you’ll react to something.

In other words, there’s always a different way of thinking about whatever situation you are in.  Your natural tendencies will make you think in your usual way; So deliberately choose to think differently by realising there are different options available to you to choose from.  And it is a choice you can make, and there are always other options.

Easy example: change ‘I don’t want to’ to ‘I’ll make the most of this’.  “I can’t” can easily become ‘I’ll try..’

Back to Henry Ford.  Whether you think you can, or think you can’t, you’re right’.  So, stop thinking you can’t, rewire your brain, and watch what happens. You never know what possibilities are waiting.  Go get ‘em!
